Picked up another speaker on the way home from work....

It's raining large format here in Central NC.....

I sniped this one for about the cost of a babysitter and a nice dinner out with the wife. It came out of a church about 40 minutes from where I live. Apparently it was the speaker for the church carillon.....

Funny story, the lady who sold it to me said her grandfather funded the carillon for the church in memory of her uncle who died fighting in WWII, and she bought it at the church yard sale. I guess what goes around comes around. I suppose that also helps date it.

Anyway, it measures between 27 and 28 ohms DCR. Would that make it a 32 ohm driver? Is there any way to tell if it's a 288b or a 288c? I almost pooped my drawers when I started putting it together, and found that the bolts that connect the throat to the horn had been stuffed into the mouth of the driver....

Luckily there was a bug screen, and it held....I did fire it up briefly, and it sounds fine.

So yeah, it's a single, but I figgered at the least, it's worth at least what I paid for it, and it could be a nice center for my 1005b's, especially since it's a 300 Hz horn. And who knows, maybe another local church will decide to get rid of one soon....

Actually, I would love to measure it with that driver. Maybe I could stop by sometime.

My guess is a 288C...this is based on what the horn label looks like and assuming both installed at the same time...

The only disadvantage to B's is current frams don't fit but GPA can do the minor machine work to update.

Ouch... Last time I sent a pair of 291's to Bill H, I almost choked when I saw the shipping cost.....

However, one of my three 288 drivers has a buzz in it, and if it does indeed need a repair or replacement 'phragm, can Bill and Co. install a 'phragm that would make it equivalent to a 288C?
